Effective date: 10 July 2026
Last updated: 10 July 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your download, access to, and use of the Scany mobile application (“Scany” or the “App”). Scany is provided by A-Design, obrt za web dizajn, vl. Josip Valčić, trading under the Zappira brand (“Zappira”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).
By downloading, accessing, or using Scany, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Scany Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App. If you use Scany for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for that organisation.
1. About Scany
Scany is a document-scanning and PDF-creation tool. Depending on your device, operating system, and App version, Scany may allow you to:
- capture one or more document pages with the camera or a platform document scanner;
- import images you select from your photo library when adding pages;
- use automatic document detection, crop, perspective correction, contrast enhancement, filters, and other platform scanning tools;
- preview pages, adjust a crop manually, add, reorder, or remove pages, and rename a document;
- organise local documents with folders and tags and view recent scans or the local library;
- choose standard or high PDF export quality;
- create a PDF locally and share it through the operating system’s share sheet; and
- choose system, light, or dark appearance.
Some scanning controls are supplied by Apple, Google, or your device manufacturer and may differ between platforms. Scany does not currently provide an account, cloud synchronisation, collaborative storage, electronic signatures, certified copies, identity verification, user-visible optical character recognition, legal advice, or professional records-management services.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old, or the minimum age required to agree to these Terms in your country, to use Scany independently. If you do not meet that requirement, you may use Scany only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms. You must be legally permitted to use the App where you live.
3. Licence to Use Scany
Subject to these Terms and the applicable app-store rules, Zappira grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to install and use Scany on devices that you own or control for personal purposes or your organisation’s internal lawful purposes.
You receive a licence to use the App, not ownership of the App or its source code. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Zappira and its licensors.
4. Fees and Connectivity
The current version of Scany does not include in-App subscriptions, purchases, advertising, or paid accounts. We may introduce optional paid functionality in a future version, but any price, billing period, renewal terms, and required consent will be presented before purchase and will be subject to the applicable app store’s payment rules and an updated version of these Terms where necessary.
You are responsible for any device, internet, mobile-data, backup, printing, messaging, cloud-storage, or third-party service charges associated with your use of Scany. Core document processing is local, but installation registration, diagnostics, analytics, provider component downloads, App updates, and some share destinations require a network connection.
5. Your Documents and Other Content
You retain any rights you hold in the scans, imported images, document titles, folders, tags, PDFs, and other content you create or provide through Scany (“User Content”). Scany processes User Content locally to perform the functions you request. We do not claim ownership of your User Content, and the current App does not intentionally upload scan or PDF contents to Zappira’s servers.
You are solely responsible for your User Content and confirm that:
- you own it or have all rights, permissions, consents, and lawful authority required to capture, import, process, store, export, and share it;
- your handling of it complies with privacy, confidentiality, intellectual-property, employment, professional-secrecy, recordkeeping, and other applicable obligations;
- it does not infringe, misappropriate, or unlawfully expose another person’s rights or information; and
- you will use appropriate care when it contains identity documents, financial information, health information, children’s information, trade secrets, or other sensitive material.
If you scan information about another person, you are responsible for providing any required notice and obtaining any required consent or other lawful basis. Scany is a tool under your control; Zappira does not review or approve the documents you choose to scan.
6. Acceptable Use
You must not use Scany to:
- break any law, violate another person’s privacy, confidentiality, publicity, or intellectual-property rights, or create or distribute unlawful material;
- forge, falsify, deceptively alter, or misuse documents, identity records, evidence, receipts, contracts, or official materials;
- scan or share information you are not authorised to possess or disclose;
- harass, defraud, impersonate, exploit, or harm another person;
- introduce malicious code or interfere with the App, its backend, security controls, networks, or third-party services;
- probe, scrape, overload, or attempt unauthorised access to the Scany installation-registration service;
- circumvent access, eligibility, technical, or security restrictions; or
- copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, decompile, reverse engineer, or derive source code from the App except to the limited extent applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.
7. Camera, Photos, and Device Permissions
Scany needs camera access to capture new scans and photo access when you choose to import an existing image. You can deny or revoke permissions in your device settings, but affected functions will not work. Scany does not record audio; the microphone is not used by the current App. You are responsible for complying with laws and rules that apply to camera use in private, secure, workplace, government, healthcare, educational, or other restricted locations.
8. Local Storage, Backups, and Deletion
Scany stores scan images, processed copies, document metadata, and preferences within the App’s storage on your device. PDFs are generated in temporary storage. Scany is not a cloud backup service, and we cannot restore your local library if the device is lost, damaged, reset, or replaced or if App data is removed.
Your device may include Scany data in local or cloud backups associated with your Apple or Google account, depending on your system and backup settings. You are responsible for reviewing and securing those backups.
Deleting a document or page in the current App removes it from the visible Scany library, but an underlying copied image, processed version, cache file, or temporary PDF may remain in the App’s private storage until the operating system clears it, you clear Scany’s storage, or you fully delete the App. Offloading an app may preserve its data. Deleting from Scany never deletes a copy already exported, backed up, printed, or shared to another person or service.
9. Review, Accuracy, and Important Documents
Automatic capture, edge detection, rotation, crop, perspective correction, cleaning, filters, contrast enhancement, compression, and PDF generation can fail, omit an edge, reduce quality, alter appearance, or produce an incomplete result. You must inspect every page and the final PDF before deleting an original, submitting a document, relying on it, or sharing it.
Scany does not verify identity, authenticity, signatures, completeness, legal validity, evidentiary admissibility, regulatory compliance, or archival quality. A Scany export is not a certified copy and is not a substitute for an original document, qualified professional advice, an approved records system, or any legally mandated method of capture, storage, certification, or submission.
You are responsible for retaining originals and independent backups when a document is important. We are not responsible for a missed deadline, rejected submission, lost original, inaccurate crop, unreadable page, or decision made without reviewing the exported file, except where applicable law does not allow that responsibility to be excluded.
10. PDF Export and Sharing
A generated PDF contains the document title in its embedded metadata, together with “Scany” as author and creator and the scan type as subject. When you choose to share, Scany sends the generated PDF, its file name or document-title share subject, and short share text to the recipient or third-party app you select in the operating system’s share sheet. You control that selection and are responsible for confirming the correct file, recipient, destination, and permissions before sending.
After a file leaves Scany, it is governed by the recipient’s practices and the terms and privacy policy of the selected email, messaging, cloud-drive, printing, file-management, or other service. Zappira cannot recall or delete a shared file and is not responsible for a third party’s availability, security, storage, onward sharing, or use.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy for Scany explains the App’s local document handling, installation registration, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Google ML Kit metrics, device permissions, providers, retention, and your choices. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If these Terms and the Privacy Policy conflict on the processing of personal data, the Privacy Policy controls.
12. Third-Party and Platform Services
Scany relies on or interoperates with third-party components and services, including Apple frameworks, Google Play services, ML Kit, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Cloudflare, app stores, operating-system share targets, and services you select. Their terms and privacy policies may also apply. We do not control third-party services and do not guarantee that they will always be available, compatible, unchanged, or error-free.
If you downloaded Scany from an app store, you also agree to that store’s applicable usage rules. To the extent these Terms are more restrictive than the store’s permitted usage rules, the store rules apply.
13. App-Store Terms
These Terms are between you and Zappira, not Apple, Google, or another app-store operator. Zappira, not the app store, is responsible for Scany and for maintenance or support we choose or are legally required to provide. The app store has no obligation to provide maintenance or support.
If Scany fails to conform to an applicable warranty that cannot lawfully be excluded, you may notify the store from which you downloaded it, and that store may refund the purchase price, if any, as its rules or applicable law require. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the store has no other warranty obligation. Zappira is responsible, to the extent required by these Terms or applicable law, for addressing claims relating to the App, including product-liability, legal-compliance, consumer-protection, and intellectual-property claims.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms when Scany is obtained through Apple’s App Store and may enforce the applicable provisions against you after your acceptance. No provision gives you rights against Apple or Google beyond rights provided by law or their own terms.
14. Intellectual Property
Scany, including its software, interface, visual design, branding, text, graphics, and other materials supplied by us, is owned by or licensed to Zappira and is protected by intellectual-property and other laws. “Scany”, “Zappira”, related logos, and product presentation may not be used without prior written permission, except for nominative use permitted by law.
Third-party software and assets may be subject to separate open-source or proprietary licence terms. Those terms govern to the extent they expressly override these Terms for the applicable component.
15. Feedback
If you voluntarily send ideas, suggestions, or feedback about Scany, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable right to use and incorporate that feedback without restriction or compensation. This does not transfer ownership of your scanned documents or other User Content.
16. Updates, Changes, and Availability
We may provide updates, corrections, security fixes, or new versions and may add, change, suspend, or discontinue a feature or the App. Updates may be required for compatibility, safety, or continued operation. Features can vary by device, country, operating system, permissions, connectivity, and availability of Apple or Google components.
We do not promise that Scany will always be available, that every feature will remain free, or that the App will remain compatible with every device or operating-system version. Where required by mandatory consumer law, changes will not reduce rights you have already acquired without appropriate notice or remedy.
17. Support
You may contact [email protected] for support. We aim to provide reasonable assistance but do not promise a specific response time, continuous support, custom development, data recovery, or compatibility with a particular workflow unless applicable law requires otherwise.
18. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Scany is provided “as is” and “as available”. We disclaim implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, security, and error-free operation. We do not warrant that scans or PDFs will meet the standards of a court, authority, employer, bank, educational institution, healthcare provider, archive, or other recipient.
Nothing in these Terms excludes an express commitment we make to you in writing or any warranty, guarantee, remedy, or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
19. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Zappira and its owner, personnel, licensors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, opportunity, goodwill, business, or data, arising from or related to Scany, third-party services, a failed or inaccurate scan, unauthorised access to your device, or a file you export or share.
We are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these Terms, loss caused by your failure to review a scan or maintain appropriate originals and backups, or loss caused by a recipient or service you selected. If you use Scany for commercial or professional purposes, our total aggregate liability arising from the App and these Terms will not exceed the greater of EUR 50 or the amount you paid for Scany during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, gross negligence where it cannot be limited, breach of mandatory data-protection obligations, or any other liability that applicable law does not allow us to limit or exclude. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
20. Indemnity for Organisational Use
If you use Scany on behalf of a business or other organisation, that organisation will defend and indemnify Zappira against third-party claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from its unlawful User Content, its violation of another person’s rights, or its material breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by Zappira. This section does not apply to an individual acting solely as a consumer where such an obligation is prohibited by law.
21. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using Scany and fully delete the App at any time. We may suspend access to network-based components, withdraw the App, or terminate this licence if you materially violate these Terms, create security or legal risk, or if required by law. Where reasonable and lawful, we will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy a curable breach.
On termination, your right to use Scany ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive will remain effective, including provisions on User Content responsibility, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, disputes, and general legal terms. Removing the App does not recall exports or shared copies.
22. Export Controls and Sanctions
You must comply with applicable export-control, trade, and sanctions laws. You may not download, export, re-export, or use Scany where prohibited or for a prohibited end use. You represent that you are not located in a country or territory subject to a comprehensive applicable embargo and are not listed on an applicable government prohibited- or restricted-party list, except where such a representation is prohibited by law.
23. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to Scany, providers, business practices, or law. We will change the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide notice in the App, on the publication page, or through another reasonable method. Changes apply prospectively from the stated effective date. If you do not agree to updated Terms, stop using and delete Scany.
24. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Croatia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
If you are a consumer, this choice of law and any jurisdiction provision do not deprive you of mandatory protections or the right to bring a claim before a court available under the law of your place of residence. In all other cases, the courts with jurisdiction in Zadar, Croatia will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from Scany or these Terms.
25. General Terms
These Terms and the Scany Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and Zappira concerning the App, except for app-store terms or separate written terms that also apply. If a provision is found invalid or unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them in connection with a business transfer, restructuring, or transfer of Scany, subject to applicable law. Headings are for convenience only.
